My Christmas Prayer - Saint Etienne

Christmas time has come around again. "My Christmas Prayer" was written by the original Liverpool rock and roll star, Billy Fury. It flopped in '59 but was resurrected fifty years later by London Indie outfit Saint Etienne to be the best track on their excellent Christmas album "A Glimpse of Stocking".

You can feel the thick deadrop of snowflakes in the cold, still darkness, as the ghost of Laura Palmer treads silently through the night. Sarah Cracknell's vocal is so, so cool, you're reaching for the lip salve, yet so, so hot you can warm your hands on it.

"Oh Lord, the snow is falling

And the whole world kneels to pray...."

Bliss.
